Imphal, July 03 2013:
Alleging manipulation in the selection of three teachers in the 3rd Executive Council of Manipur University and also citing, amongst others, non-ap-pointment of statutory posts such as Pro VC, Finance Officer, Controller of Examination as well as other officers such as Academic Director, Academic Staff College; Director of College Develop-ment Council etc for the last two years in Manipur University, the Manipur University Teach-ers' Association (MUTA) has hinted at launching a series of agitation in order to 'streamline' the functioning 6f the university and for overall growth of the university.
A statement issued by MUTA today also highlighted the nonimplementation of HAG Scale, long pending scheme for senior professors and non-holding of selection committees for promotion/appointment of faculty members, etc in the university.
Pointing out that the University is presently run on adhoc basis, centralizing all powers in an autocratic manner by destroying all the democratic norms, the MUTA statement said that there are no statutory officers on regular basis except the Registrar.
"At present, the VC is looking after the office of the Finance Officer of MU.
And under these circumstances, the general public may allege that there is ample possible room for misappropriation of fund as he himself sanctions and signs cheques as the Finance Officer," the MUTA statement said.
Considering all the facts, MUTA in its general body meeting held on May 28 took a number of resolutions to implement within some specific datelines with an endorsement to take any appropriate actions to the Executive Committee, it added.
