Health Minister launches free treatment facility for Haemophilia and Thalassaemia

Health Minister L Jayantakumar Singh, launched a free treatment facility for Haemophilia and Thalassaemia at the conference hall of JNIMS Blood Bank, today, under the aegis of State Health Society, National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur.
Speaking at the event, Jayantakumar said that as a gift to the people, people will now be able to get free treatment and medicine for Haemophilia and Thalassaemia at RIMS and JNIMS from today.
He explained that Prophylactic therapy for Haemophilia as well as all the required medication will be free.
The Minister continued that Thalassaemia is mainly present in children and its treatment and medication will be free of cost from now as well.
He then explained that Manipur will either become the first or the second in the North East to have a National Commission on Disease Control (NCDC) as land has already been demarcated and the necessary foundations have been laid as well, with the only remaining thing being the construction works.
This is a huge achievement for the health sector of the State, he added.
Jayantakumar said that a specialist doctor from Gangaram Hospital will come to Manipur on June 6 to spread awareness and information to the people about the dos and don'ts concerning liver transplant.
Clarifying that the doctor is not coming for performing liver surgeries in the State, the Minister added that this is an opportunity and a plan to ensure free liver transplant for the poor people of the State who are suffering Liver Cirrhosis.
The Minister explained that people should let go of the notion that Liver Cirrhosis and liver transplant are always connected with drinking or alcoholism.
Nowadays, even many women and infants are facing liver damages mainly due to the eating habits as most of the things people eat today are not healthy, Jayantakumar added.
On the other hand, he said that the State Government is mooting the possibility of constructing a cancer hospital in the State and a DPR has been framed and is in the processing stage.
Speaking at the event, Director, JNIMS, Professor Th Bhimo said that Thalassaemia is diagnosed very fast but Haemophilia is a rare condition in which one finds it difficult to stop a bleeding, a situation which is also commonly known as Factor 8 & 9.RIMS already has a Department for this affliction and JNIMS now has specialist Dr Anil for diagnosing the said disease, he said.
Dr L Tomcha from NHM was also present at the event.
