Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, has adopted Puching (Khebuching) village of Tamenglong district in Manipur.
The project for inclusive and sustainable development of Puching is being implemented by the Kotdwara (Uttarakhand) Unit of BEL.
The Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, MV Gowtama, handed over two ambulances to Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the District Hospital, Tamenglong District, at a function held at Imphal today.
BEL also signed an MoU with the CMO for the ambulances, one of which will be stationed at Puching to meet requirements patient transport for Puching and its nearby villages to Tamenglong, Longmai and Imphal.
Another MoU was signed between BEL and Ramkhonang Gonmei, Chairman of Puching, for the remaining CSR work that is being done in the village in a phased manner.
BEL seeks to improve the standard of living, livelihood and economy of the people of Puching village in a phased manner.
In the First Phase, BEL is providing 2 ambulances, 60 solar street lights, 106 solar home lighting systems, 2 brick making machines, 70 FRP portable toilets with soak pits and water supply pipeline to the houses.
Puching is located around 22 kms from Tamenglong district headquarters and the place lacks many basic necessities like a proper road, water, medical facilities, sanitation and source of livelihood.
It is connected by a kaccha road only.
The village has an electricity connection but it is not available most of the time as the transmission lines passing through hills and forest areas get damaged frequently.
