Imphal, April 03 2013: A Joint team of Imphal West Commandos and City Unit Commandos led by DSP of City Unit Dr S Ibomcha today raided liquor vendors operating on the Western side of Mapal Kangjeibung area in Paona Keithel, Roopmahal Tank and MG Avenue in Thangal Keithel and seized large quantity of illicit liquor.

Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao in connection with the raid, DSP Dr S Ibomcha said that the drive was conducted as a precautionary measure to prevent unwanted incident during the scheduled visit of President of India Pranab Mukherjee in second week of this month.

The commando team seized 574 bottles of Whiskey and Rum, 310 litres of locally brewed Sekmei and Phayeng liquor and 220 can-beers from the liquor vendors.

Moreover, the team also rounded up 80 persons, including employees and customers.

In addition to this, police have begun monitoring movement of suspicious persons and activities at private houses and rent-houses located alongside the airport road, the police officer disclosed.
