Imphal, November 02 2024:
Expressing strong condemnation of the recent assault and robbery of two Poumai men by armed miscreants, 13 civil society organisations (CSOs) have called on all parties to avoid actions that threaten the social fabric of the state.
In a joint statement, PANDM, IPSA, ACOAM LUP, IPAK, KSA, ERDO, Kanglamei, KIL, CLK, SWA, LOYALUP, MIKAL, and AKSHIL voiced their strong disapproval of the incident, describing it as a deliberate attempt to create discord among indigenous communities and intensify the current crisis.
The October 31 incident, the statement said, should not be taken lightly as it poses a serious threat to the bonds of brotherhood among indigenous communities, particularly amidst the ongoing fight against Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
With various claims, counter-claims, and CCTV footage circulating, the organisations demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and appropriate punishment for those involved.
They also maintained that while it is relatively easy to establish an organisation and build a large membership, the real challenge lies in ensuring that members adhere to the discipline, ideology, and guidelines of the organisation.
Leaders, they said, bear significant responsibility in upholding these values within their groups.
The statement cautioned that targeting local citizens instead of confronting Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists could undermine public trust and turn the people against them, which would ultimately be a loss for the community and society at large.
The organisations further warned that such actions threaten the unity, integrity, and identity of the state, as well as the solidarity among indigenous communities.
They urged all stakeholders to refrain from similar acts in the future.
Merely voicing support for a united Manipur while simultaneously intimidating and oppressing local communities will only contribute to the state's decline, they warned.
