Court notices to Health Dept over JSSK

Imphal Bench of Gauhati High Court has sent notice to various concerned departments of the State government health sector in connection with a writ petition filed for failure to provide benefits and entitlements guaranteed under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) scheme.
The JSSK scheme is initiated by the National Rural health Mission (NRHM) for providing free and cashless services to pregnant women and also covered the treatment of sick new born babies in all government health institutions.
The scheme was launched on June 1, 2011 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and came into effect in Manipur from August 15, 2011 .
The petitioner identified as Lukram Ongbi Pratima Devi, who happened to be a pregnant woman, has been attending the JNIMS for prenatal checkups.
As she wanted to get herself avail of the entitlements guaranteed under the JSSK scheme, she had submitted a representation on Sept.
5 to the concerned authorities of the state health department sector to provide her all necessary drugs and consumables entitled under the scheme for delivery of her child at JNIMS which is expected to fall on Dec.
15 this year.
As the representation was not answered after a lapse of two months she approached the court under the initiative of Human Rights Law Network.
The respondents in the writ petition include Commissioner Health and Family Welfare, GoM, Director JNIMS, Mission Director, State Health Society, NRHM Manipur and State Nodal officer JSSK, State health Society.
