Imphal, November 02 2011:
Communist Party of India (Marxist), General Secretary Prakash Karat Wednesday stressed the need for re-organising the Centre-State relation for better coordination and development.
Speaking in a Lecture programme on "Neo-liberal high growth Trajectory and Centre-State fiscal relation" at the Senate Hall, MU, Prakash Karat expressed his fear that the full implementation of various bilateral free trade agreements signed by India will affect the economy of the states to a great extent.
Even though the responsibility of implementing various development schemes in the states lies with the state government, the revenues which come out of the schemes and projects goes to the Centre which leaves nothing much to the state government for their own development.
Moreover, the budget allocations for the states are not enough.
In such situation, it is very important to review the budget allocations of the state, Karat said.
He further said that such irregularities in the fund allocations to the states are causing many disadvantages to various state governments of the country.
He also stressed the need for a sound political atmosphere to bring development and redress various social problems facing by the people.
The programme was organised by the Economic Department of the Manipur University.
Ex MP Narul Huda and Head of Department of Economic Department, MU Professor E Bijoy also attended the programme as presidium members.
Besides, teachers and students of different departments of the university, research scholars and intellectuals of the state also attended the programme.
