Imphal, August 01 2021:
BJP is likely to project incumbent chief minister N Biren as the party's chief ministerial candidate in the next Manipur Legislative Assembly election which is due in early next year.
Report on a national media channel said BJP central leaders held a meeting and resolved to divert from the earlier norms followed by BJP in the next election.
The resolution was taken as a result of the defeat in West Bengal election where there was no clear-cut chief ministerial candidate thus leading to confusion among the BJP candidates and the people.
The meeting declared the names of chief ministerial candidates of BJP for the five states where assembly elections are due next year.
The names included N Biren for Manipur, Yogi Adityanath for Uttar Pradesh, Pramod Sawant for Goa, Pushkar Dhami for Uttarakhand and a dalit candidate for Punjab.
The channel reported that the present election strategy of the BJP was not in practice till the 2017 election but the party adopted the new strategy in the aftermath of the electoral loss in West Bengal election.
