ATSUM to go for fresh polls

Imphal, June 01 2013 : The third consultative meeting of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) held on May 30 at Senapati District Headquarters has decided to dissolve the present Interim Body and conduct fresh election within June.

According to a statement issued by convenor Haopu Khongsai and Caretaker and Member Secretary of ATSUM Interim Body Emboi Serto, several organizations including tribal leaders and intellectuals have strongly urged for revival and reformation of ATSUM which has been in the doldrums for the past couple of years.

An Election Commission has also been instituted with W Shinglai as Chief Election Commissioner and Dailord as Returning Officer, it said.

The ATSUM also denounced proposed agitations from June 3 called by some people in the name of ATSUM and declared their decision as null and void.
