Ukhrul denounces Govt's move to centralise MGNREGS

MGNREGS beneficiaries on Saturday staged a rally to oppose the government's move of centralising MGNREGS with Manipur State Rural Development Agency (MSRDA) and petitioned a memorandum to the state governor.
The mass rally organized under the banner of Hunphun village comprising 27 localities of district headquarters.
Over 8000 MGNREGS beneficiaries from different zones of Ukhrul district gathered at TNL ground today.
Addressing the rally, rights activist Hungyohung stated that the national flagship programme guarantees employment to marginalized people and other programme like national rural
livelihood programme will be introduced shortly for the benefit of the poor section of the country.
Hunphun headman H.A.Wungrampan, secretary of 31 Villages MGNREGS Committee under Chingai Block Wungpam, who is also the headman of Marem village, are among others who addressed the gathering.
The rally was organised purportedly to register disapproval to the state Cabinet decision taken March 11 last to route all MGNREGS programme in the state through MSRDA.
So far this year, only 10 days of work have been implemented under MGNERGS much against the official guidelines.
After the public address, the rally marched upto the Mini Secretariat and submitted a memorandum to the governor of Manipur, through the district administration, for necessary redress.
Signatories of the memorandum included Hunphun Village Authority and All Hunphun Tang Chairmen and Secretaries Association (AHTCSA) .
