Imphal, August 31 2011:
The rate of the reading habit of people in the state is very low.
To increase this rate there is the need to strengthen the library movement in the state, said RK Nimai, Commissioner, Art & Culture.
Speaking at the One Day Orientation Programme for Club Libraries of Manipur at the State Central Library, Imphal organized by Manipur Libraries Association (MALA), RK Nimai said that the role of public libraries in strengthening the library movement is huge.
The Manipur Library Association is doing its best to strengthen the movement, he added.
He further said that though there is a Public Library Act in the state, unfortunately the Act is not fully implemented.
We all need to co operate and work for strengthening the library movement in the state.
Delivering the presidential speech president of MALA, N Enaocha said that many things which have never happened in the past are happening today all for the worst.
This generation needs to discuss the history of their forefathers.
To bring about a peaceful and harmonious future the present generation should come together and strengthen this movement.
He further went on to say that hardly a handful of people visit libraries.
It seems that going to the library is their last resort.
Even students visit the library only when they desperately need to consult some specific books for appearing in an exam.
