Pallel areas submerged; no Govt help as yet

Pallel, July 30 2015:
Heavy rainfall which increased the water level of the Sengmai (Sengvai) River tributaries resulting in overflowing had caused flooding of Pallel areas.
Several houses and paddy fields were partially submerged by the water.
According to report reaching here, houses and properties including livestock as well as standing agricultural crops were destroyed and submerged in Pallel under Thoubal District and some adjoining villages of Chandel District.
When the water level reached the danger point, local people prohibited vehicular movement over the Pallel's old bridge and temporarily closed it down due to apprehension of being wash away by the strong current.
The most affected villages of the flood were Island Village and Theimungkung Villages.
Houses were half submerged by the water and their properties were also completely damaged.
A relief camp has been opened for the affected villagers at Charith Foundation, Sinai village.

Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao reporter, M Tolkham a resident of Island said that due to heavy rainfall in the Sengmai River, tributaries caused flooding in the area.
Surrounding people were still panic stricken fearing that if rainfall continues, the water will be above the danger level.
Villagers were busy in moving their belongings through neck deep water to safer places.
Meanwhile, Volunteers of Kuki Students and Aimol Student's Union Manipur led by its President also extended helping hands in moving of household items of Island villagers.
A team of newly elected Chandel ADC members and Naga People's Front (NPF) Chandel Division also visited the flood affected villages near Pallel and interacted with the affected villagers on Thursday morning.
Briefing media persons, Chandel's ADC member Ksm Mathew Maring who is also the leader of Democratic Alliance of Chandel said that due to overflow of Sengvai River, villagers left their respective houses and moved to safer places.
Methew assured to provide some relief materials from the side of the Alliance.
He also appealed to the nearby villagers to extend assistance to the flood affected villagers.
Mathew further urged the Departments to take necessary steps for the displaced villagers and provide relief materials at the earliest.
Ts Kanlun Anal, Member 13-Vomku DCC and John Molarsing, President NPF Chandel Division also visited the areas.
Later SDO Tengnoupal came to the area.
M Tongpao Haokip, Secretary of REACH-M handed over consumer commodities to Island village Chief M Ringai Maring and Rev Mm Kunthi Hormi also extended financial help to the affected villagers.
Moreover, there is also a report of overflowing the Chakpi River and flash flood in Chandel District Headquarters.
Besides destroying houses, large tracts of agricultural lands in the District Headquarters were also submerged under the water.
