Ukhrul, August 29 2014 :
The Ukhrul district administration has announced this evening prohibiting rallies and sit-in protests owing to the imposition of restriction under Section 144 of CrPC in the town but the planned mass rally under the aegis of United Naga Council (UNC) is all set to be taken out tomorrow in defiance if the prohibitory order.
Using loud speakers, the district administration carried out publicity campaign today evening to announce that it would not allow any rally, sit-in protest or public gathering in the town as the CrPC 144 is still being promulgated in the town.
Meanwhile, the mass rallies are scheduled to be held in the four Naga dominated district headquarters of Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel in Manipur tomorrow.
The mass rallies have been called by United Naga Council (UNC) demanding the Government of India for expediting an acceptable and honourable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
The rallies will also be in protest against the alleged militarisation of Naga areas particularly Ukhrul district by Government of Manipur through deployment of State forces in utter disrespect of the Indo-Naga cease-fire.
The UNC's rallies will also be in protest against the Government of Manipur's alleged disrespect for the democratic process of tripartite talk on alternative arrangement which has progressed to a logical stage.
UNC further said the August 30 rallies will also be in protest against the unabated aggressive policies of the Government of Manipur to encroach upon the ancestral lands of the Nagas and tribals through Laws, Acts & Notifications to subvert the protective provisions of the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (MLR & LR) Act, 1960 .
Meanwhile, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) on Thursday expressed strong suspicion at the motive of the State government in continuing the promulgation of prohibitory order under section 144 CrPc for a prolonged period in Ukhrul district headquarters.
In a press communiqu signed by its general secretary K Dickson, the apex Tamgkhul body said that the Tangkhul community was perplexed to witness the obstinate stance of the Government of Manipur towards the prevailing situation in the district, while pointing out that imposition of the act in the district has completed 46 days.
"On 26th August 2014, the Deputy Commissioner / District Administration has clearly stated in the local dailies that the Ukhrul public are maintaining calm, and he also noted that there are no incident of confrontation or any sorts of violence between the public and security forces.
Then, why is the GoM still hell-bent on continuing with the prohibitory order in the district headquarters?, " the statement questioned.
