Imphal, November 27 2015 :
One person claiming to be an Assistant Accountant (AA) of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Pvt Ltd collected a huge amount of money from the food stalls at the main venue in the ongoing Sangai Festival promising to provide domestic LPG cylinders and even commercial LPG connections.
Many food stall owners including those from outside the State are also reported to have been cheated by the fraudster.
Sources said that one N Tarunkumar, who identified himself as an assistant accountant of IOC, collected Rs 500 each from the food stalls on the first day of the festival and issued certificates promising to provide domestic LPG connections.
The same person again visited the stalls three days later and collected Rs two thousand each from the stall owners promising to provide commercial LPG connections.
However, the self-styled IOC assistant accountant did not collect the amounts from some food stalls which were already using LPG cylinders at that point of time, added the source.
The person collected the amounts from around 30 food stalls which included a stall owned by one Bhutanese national.
Owner of food stall no F-36, Tshering Dolma (25) told Hueiyen Lanpao that one N Tarunkumar issued a certificate and collected Rs 500 on the first day of the festival promising to provide commercial LPG connection.
Tarun came with the identity card of Sangai Festival issued by the Tourism Department and identified himself as an official of IOC.
He promised to provide the LPG connection in three days time but never returned, said Dolma.
Tshering Dolma further stated that she called the number provided by Tarun after three days but all the calls were diverted.
"I came along with my mother and two cooks in Imphal to participate at the Sangai Festival.
But it is unfortunate that I will go back with such an experience," said Tshering Dolma.
One Kshetrimayum Premjit, who runs food stall no F-20 also told Hueiyen Lanpao that N Tarunkumar promised to provide commercial LPG connection from one Misao Gas.
When a complaint was lodged with the police, the police asked the victims to bring Xerox copies of the certificates given by Tarun.
After preliminary investigation, the certificates turned out to be duplicates.
