Imphal, October 27 2015:
People of Manipur should not bow down in front of forces that attempt to disintegrate the existent unity of Manipur but stand united to fight against such external forces, said former President of United Committee Manipur (UCM) advocate Konsam Langamba at the discussion programme under the theme "People's Movement for the Common Future of Manipur" held at Kangchup Chingkhong.
Speaking at the one-day discussion programme organised by Royal United Club Organisation along with All Manipur United Club's Organisation (AMUCO), Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) and UCM, advocate Langamba alleged that the Government of India had encouraged armed groups like the NSCN (IM) to an unexpected level and stated that the Indian Government should not do anything which can disintegrate Manipur while trying to please the armed group.
Attending the discussion as resource person, advocate Ph Arjun said that people are still apprehensive about the outcome of the peace talk between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) and the peace accord signed between the two.
He said the contents of the nearly 17 years of talks were still not made public.
Phulindro Konsam, who also attended the programme as resource person, said that Government of India cannot afford to leave behind Manipur Government and take actions detrimental to the cause of integrity.
Attending the programme as presidium member, village chief SK Waiphei also called on all communities in the State to be united and defend the State together as was the practice in the past.
CCSK General Secretary Jiten said that valley people support developmental projects undertaken in hill areas but will oppose those who were attempting to disintegrate the territorial integrity of Manipur.
He said if the recently passed three Bills harmed the interests of any community, then that community should come forward and discuss the issues so that there can be a solution.
AMUCO Vice President Ph Deban said that people need to think of unity instead of inciting communal feelings and called on all the communities to love each other and bring peace and unity in Manipur.
