Imphal, September 27 2021:
Sustaining the efforts being made to arrest the culprits involved in the abduction and murder of Athuan Abonmai, security forces continued operation in several areas of Tamenglong district on Monday.
However, the security personnel were demoralised due to lack of necessary equipment.
According to sources, state police force led by an ADGP, one IGP and several commandants have been stationing at Tamenglong district headquarters for conducting cordon and search operation to arrest the culprits involved in the brutal killing of Abonmai.
Security personnel continued to conduct operation in suspected areas, foot patrolling and checking of passers-by.
In addition to these measures, an outpost has been set up at Sonpram village, which is located 22 kilometres away from the district headquarters.
A company led by assistant commandant is stationing at the outpost.
Even though the security personnel are discharging their duties, the state government is yet to provide medical team and ambulance for treatment if any security personnel got hurt or fall ill while on duty.
There is an apprehension of succumbing to injuries when any personnel get injured in case of an encounter because of lack of medical assistance.
As there is no electricity and mobile network in the recently set up police outpost at Sonpram, the security forces are facing lots of inconveniences.
Even though security personnel had left for the district in high spirit to execute their assigned task, there are apprehensions among the personnel as the bullet proof jacket, head gears and other equipment issued for protecting themselves from enemy attacks have either expired or are old.
Moreover, the conditions of the vehicles are in bad shape.
Consequently, security vehicles break down a lot along the deteriorated roads.
This has not only demoralised the security personnel but also wasted their precious time.
