Imphal, March 27 2019:
Congress party has promised to bring forth a minimum income guarantee scheme in case the party forms Government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha election.
After AICC president Rahul Gandhi promised on March 25 to introduce a minimum income guarantee scheme which would be the grandest scheme in the whole world for poverty eradication, CLP leader O Ibobi reiterated the same promise during a press meet at Congress Bhavan here this afternoon.
Many countries have been already speculating that the scheme promised by Rahul Gandhi would be the grandest scheme in the whole world for eradication of poverty, Ibobi said.
He said that the scheme would benefit five crore households belonging to BPL category.
If it is assumed that there are five members in each family, altogether 25 crore people would be benefited from the scheme.
The scheme being formulated in consultation with distinguished economists of the country and the world would guarantee Rs 72,000 to each beneficiary family.
In addition to these schemes, other social welfare schemes which were introduced earlier would be implemented side by side in case Congress party is elected to power.
Any assurance or promise made by Congress party will always be fulfilled and this is known to the people, Ibobi claimed.
He said that farm loans indebted to farmers were waived off in some States just as Congress party promised before the Legislative Assembly elections of those States in which Congress scored thumping victories.
Noting that some political parties have been deriding Rahul Gandhi's historic announcement as impractical, MPCC president Gaikhangam asserted that the scheme announced by Rahul Gandhi would not be anything comparable to the scheme of fooling people to open bank accounts with zero balance with the false promise of transferring Rs 15 lakh to each account.
In the wake of suicides committed by many farmers during the UPA-I Government, NREGS was launched to help farmers cope with economic distress and it helped 14 crore people overcome their distresses.
But the BJP-led NDA Government has been implementing NREGS with a nonchalant attitude and its funds are not released in time just because the scheme was introduced by Congress, Gaikhangam decried.
He said that the minimum income guarantee scheme (world's largest poverty eradication measure) would be definitely introduced in case Congress forms Government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha election.
