Ukhrul & Tamenglong selected for growing Kiwis and oranges under CHAMAN

Ukrul District and Tamenglong District have been selected for "growing kiwifruits and oranges for the second phase of Coordinated Horticulture Assessment and Management Using Geoinformatics (CHAMAN) Project.
This was conveyed during the "State Level Workshop on CHAMAN cum Report releasing function of the project" by the authority of Manipur Remote Sensing Application Centre (MARSAC), Department of Science and Technology, Manipur, Manipur Secretariat, North Block, Imphal, the department which organized the workshop yesterday.
The function was graced by T Pamei, Commissioner (Science & Technology), Government of Manipur as the chief guest.
Speaking at the function, Pamei observed that horticulture, agriculture and forestry will be much fruitful in the State if the policy makers, scientists of MARSAC and field level workers of the first three Departments work in tandem with one another.
He urged all the concerned people to take the benefits of Geoinformatic technology saying that it can accurately identify/point out the suitable types of crops and fruits that can be grown in a place or location.
He then opined that using geoinformatics in cultivating crops and fruits will boost the income of the cultivators as well as the State's economy to a great extent.
Apart from releasing a report on 1st phase of CHAMAN project in Senapati District, the plan of action for the 2nd phase of CHAMAN Project was also discussed at length during the function.
Many officers of Horticulture Department also attended the function.
