MEA officials scan Imphal

As India is preparing to host the G-20 summit in 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir, an official team of the ministry of external affairs recently conducted a held survey in Imphal in relation with the summit.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a five-member high powered panel for overall coordination of G20 meetings to be held in the union territory next year.
The territory of J&K has been selected by the ministry for external affairs (MEA) for holding G-20 meetings during the summit of the high-profile grouping to be hosted by India in 2023.The G20 summit brings together the world's major economies.
The member countries of the G20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Ara bia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and the European Union.
This will be the first major international summit to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after the erstwhile state's special status guaranteed under Article 370 of the Constitution was abrogated and it was bifurcated into two union territories on August 5, 2019 .
Meanwhile, a highly placed source said that some officials of MEA carried out field survey in Imphal city for accommodations and security situation on Friday.
The source said that some of the G-20 leaders are likely to visit Imphal during the summit and the survey was part of the protocol to host the summit.
On the other hand, some officials of the state home department told The People's Chronicle that the department has not received any official information regarding any likely visit of G-20 leaders.
Even if there is any such plan, the Centre will inform the state only when the programme is finalised, the officials conveyed.
Mention may be made that various conferences will be held in different states as part of the summit.
About 19 topics including environmental changes, digital transparency, health, environmental hazards, agriculture, water, business, education, culture and sports will be discussed during these conferences.
