Imphal, June 25 2021:
Left parties continued their protest against fuel price hike at Khurai in Imphal East district on Friday.
CPI state secretary L Sotinkumar, who attended the protest, asked the state government why it cannot reduce the fuel price when Meghalaya government can bring down the price by reducing VAT tax.
In general, states ruled by non-BJP government have slightly reduced fuel price and Meghalaya is one such example in the northeast.
Petrol price has crossed Rs 100 per litre in India while it is available below Rs 70 in the neighouring countries, which depends on India in various sectors.
Hike in fuel price automatically resulted in hike in price of commodities and it affects the public.
Left parties will always stand against such anti-people policy of the government and they will continue their protest until the government brings down the fuel price, he said.
CPI-M state secretariat member Sarat Salam said that India's relation with its neighbouring countries has been deteriorating under Modi government.
The present NDA government is different from the Vajpayee government.
Amid the pandemic, the BJP government is trying to loot the public in favour of capitalists, industrialists and corporates.
A strong public movement is needed to save the nation and its people from the Modi government, he said.
CPI spokesperson RK Amusana and members of RSP and AIFB also participated in the protest.
