EEVFAM appeals HC for swift justice

Imphal, June 25 2019: The Extrajudicial Execution Victims Families Association Manipur (EEVFAM) has appealed to the High Court of Manipur to issue necessary directions for expediting the trial of the fake encounter cases pending before the trial Courts of Manipur by consulting/assigning special designated Court for exclusive trials of fake encounter cases.

It also appealed to the High Court to issue necessary direction to the Court of CJM, Thoubal, to take up necessary actions to ensure free, fair and prompt trials.

The appeal by EEVFAM mentioned that in nine case of fake encounter, criminal trials have commenced but the lack of Special PP of CBI and overburden of cases before the Session Court concerned have led to the matters being fixed in a gap of more than one month.

This has caused undue delay in delivering justice to the families of the victims, who have been craving for justice for the last many decades.

EEVFAM also expressed concern at CJM Thoubal and alleged that the said Court has failed to take up any active proceeding in connection with the CBI vs Huidrom Shakthi case despite submitting necessary chargesheet and prosecution sanction by the State Government.

On the other hand, CJM Thoubal has also failed to release the order concerning N Sunibala vs CBI case even though the hearing was concluded on May 30 this year and the matter was filed for order on June 3 .

On enquiry, the Court of CJM Thoubal neither gave any tangible reply nor informed EEVFAM about initiation of any proceeding in the said case till date, it alleged.

EEVFAM continued that such acts of the Court of CJM Thoubal, have cast a serious doubt to the family of the victims as to whether the proceeding has been continuing in a free and fair manner and as such, appealed to the High Court of Manipur to issue necessary directions for expediting the trial of the fake encounter cases pending before the trial Courts of Manipur by consulting/assigning special designated Court for exclusive trials of fake encounter cases and to issue necessary direction to the Court of CJM, Thoubal, to take up necessary actions to ensure free, fair and prompt trials.
