New device for cataract operation at Shija

Imphal, June 25 2011:
The latest Torsional Phaco devices which can perform cataract operations in 10 minutes has been installed at the Shija Hospital and Research Institute.
Ophthalmologist consultant of the institute, Dr Sunindra Laishram said that installation cost ' 34 lakhs.
With this device a cataract surgery will be performed according to a standard technique, he said.
The cost of conducting a surgery with this new method will depend on the lens to be used by the patient as per his or her vision requirement.
The cost will range from ' 3500 to ' 7000, he said.
