Meira paibis demand unconditional release of village volunteers

Thoubal, January 25 2025: Demanding the unconditional release of two village volunteers arrested by Manipur police commandos on January 23, Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi staged a sit-in protest at Heirok Part II Keithel Maning today.

Notably, Thokchom Dinesh and Thokchom Luxmikanta were arrested on charges of being alleged members of an underground outfit.

Condemning the arrest of the two village volunteers, Khundongbam Sanahal, member, Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi, said that the duo were arrested while on their way for some work.

Stating that the public of Heirok will not accept the "false charges" laid on them, she shared that the two are students who became village volunteers of Heirok area after the eruption of violence on May 3, 2023.The protestors wielded many placards with messages such as "Release village volunteers without any condition", "We condemn arrest of village volunteers", "Repeal AFSPA from Manipur" among others.

They also condemned the recent killing of a Class X student from Salungpham.
