Imphal, December 22 2024:
Kangleipak Kanba Lup has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court of Manipur to fix the flight ticket rate from Imphal to Guwahati at Rs 1000, considering the people in the valley, particularly the Meetei community, cannot access the national highways at present.
In a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday afternoon, KKL secretary general Ngamkheingakpa Luwang informed that the PIL was filed in the interest of the people in the valley and expressed belief that the court would do what is right and necessary.
He continued that a total of 15 lakh people belonging to a single community have been denied access to the national highways due to the conflict.
In this regard, a letter was sent to the PMO, union home minister and the Civil Aviation ministry to provide proper security and to fix the airfare to affordable rates.
Ngamkheingakpa further said that in response, the Manipur DGP was instructed and the state government ordered for deployment of full security along the national highways.
However, the order remains unimplemented.
Since the airfare from Imphal-Aizawl is only Rs 700, the fare from Imphal to Guwahati can be fixed at Rs 1000, he reasoned.
KKL has already filed a complaint regarding this to the Manipur Human Rights Commission.
The Commission directed for contacting the authority concerned instead and disposed the case without any hearing, he recalled.
