Imphal, November 22 2012:
Reacting against hiking the charges of for hair cutting, shaving, hair dying, etc by the barbers in the state, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has proclaimed that the new rate could not be accepted and the barbers have to follow the earlier rate.
Addressing media persons at its Head Office here today, President of AMSU Abdul Haque pointed out that the official rate for hair cutting, shaving, hair dying, etc was fixed by the State Labour Department in consultation with All Manipur Barbers Association on October 10, 2010 .
However, discarding all the set rules of the state government and without the approval of the Labour Commissioner, the Barbers in the state have increased the rate at their own will, he charged.
The student leader informed that AMSU had earlier invited the Barbers Association to have a joint meeting in this regard.
But no response had been given.
The present rate being charged by the barbers from the public for hair cutting, head maalish, full head shaving and special shaving is Rs 30 as against Rs 20 which is being fixed by State Labour Department and the rate for hair dying is Rs 60 at present as against Rs 50, and for full maalish (body), which was earlier charged Rs 40 has been hiked to Rs 50 .
Abdul Haque advised the Barbers' Association to charge their customers with the earlier rate.
For school and college going students, the rate should be half the fixed rate.
This new system should be followed by all the barbers in the state before November 25, failing which their saloons shall be forced to shut down, he warned, while announcing that AMSU would launch a drive in this connection very soon and the defaulting barbers themselves should be held responsible for any eventuality.
