Ukhrul, September 22 2013:
In spite of the official clearance from the District Social Welfare office of Ukhrul, the beneficiaries of National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) are yet to get their payment owing to inordinate delay in releasing the amount from the bank here.
More than 100 NFBS beneficiaries of Ukhrul district are now crying foul as to why the bank has delayed the payment.
On enquiry, it was found that the District Social Welfare office have given a nod for clearance months ago and has even instructed the United Bank of India (UBI) to make the payment through the accounts opened by the selected beneficiaries.
An official source informed the selected families have accordingly opened their account in UBI and SBI.
However, it was learnt that the inordinate delay comes from the UBI in Ukhrul and the beneficiaries are perplexed as to why this is happening.
In a similar case, the District Rural Development Authority (DRDA) has reportedly held back final bill for Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) scheme and Border Areas Development Programme (BADP).
Urging for early release of the final bill, a section of work agencies undertaking BADP scheme and IAY beneficiaries have expressed displeasure for the undue delay.
The concerned authorties have persistently mounted pressure to the work agencies and beneficiaries to complete the project and accordingly, the works have been completed within a stipulated time, it stated.
They have also raised doubt as to why the final bill has not been released till today, while questioning whether the money has been misappropriated.
