Imphal, August 21 2019:
Joint Action Committee Against Mysterious Death of Riamei Chungamlu has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh seeking handing over of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today.
Riamei Chungamlu, wife of Konjengbam Jackson, s/o K Joykumar Singh of Pansang Leikai, Moirang, Bisnupur district, was found allegedly hung to death on bed with her chunny shawl tied to the bed stand/mosquito net stand (Kangkhal cheikhok) on August 17 at around 7 pm to 8 pm, said the memorandum of the JAC.
Asserting that it is highly unlikely that she could have hung herself to death and the bed stand could not bear the weigh of her body, the JAC alleged that the victim may have been 'killed' .
Urging the body be handed over to the parental family, the JAC demanded that the parental family be provided indemnity to perform last rites as per tradition of the Rongmei tribe.
It also urged the authorities concerned to book culprits involved in the case and award stringent punishment.
