Imphal, February 21 2021:
Job card holders of Lourembam Gram Panchayat in Heirok Assembly Constituency demanded to allow them to work as per the MGNREGA norms and to provide the sanctioned wages.
Speaking to media persons in a press meet held at Arong Ningthou Shanglen in Nongpok Lourembam on Saturday, Yumnam Momoni, one of the job card holder, alleged that from 2017 till 2020, the Pradhan and Members of Lourembam Gram Panchayat have mishandled the sanctioned wages of the job card holders under MGNREGA thereby violating their rights.
Regarding this an RTI was filed and it was published in the local media as well.
Accordingly some officials of MGNREGA came on February 10 and discussed the matter with the job card holders, she added.
Momoni continued that the officials stated that the work for 2017 to 2020 has already been completed and there is no new work for 2021.The officials further told them to work for 14 days and the wages for the said labour will be credited in the accounts of the job card holders within April however the officials denied to sign an agreement for the same.
Amid such a situation, one of the officials of MGNREGA made some of the job card holders to work on February 12 which is not called for as the job card holders take it as an act to cover up the wrongdoings, she added.
Therefore the job card holders of Lourembam Gram Panchayat urged the State Government to intervene and look into the matter at the earliest.
