Imphal, January 21 2020:
The Manipur People's Democratic Alliance (MPDA) has vehemently condemned the harassment of a lady IPS officer by an Assam Rifles personnel posted at Khudengthabi check-post on January 19 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, MPDA convenor Dr Th Inaocha alleged that the repulsive incident shows the complete failure of the State Government in ensuring law and order in the State.
It is shocking that the Rifleman of the 12 AR was arrogant enough to harass and molest, not a simple civilian, but a lady IPS officer to boot, apart from assaulting her escort party, he lamented.
Lauding the DGP of Manipur Police for quickly condemning the incident instead of keeping mum, he appealed to the authorities concerned to take swift and necessary actions if similar incidents occur again.
Dr Th Inaocha alleged that the State Government has not been able to contain/solve the issues plaguing the State in a timely manner.
Speaking about the statement made by Inner Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan at a recent event held at Khangabok, Inaocha accused the MP of making irresponsible comments and said that his (Ranjan) statement is akin to putting the blame on the people for a situation/problem which the Government itself failed to solve.
AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS have also condemned the statement made by Dr RK Ranjan.
On the other hand, AMSU women wing has also spoken out against the alleged harassment of a lady IPS officer by an AR personnel.
