Imphal, November 20 2011:
Welcoming the November 16 state Cabinet decision on setting up Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, former Manipur Human Rights Commission Yambem Laba has observed that there should be no further delay in translation of the Cabinet decision into action.
Talking to media persons during a press conference convened by Wide Angle at Manipur Press Club here today, Yambem Laba said that the requirement of Child Right Commission is felt even more in Manipur where there have been cases of adulteration in the food provided to the children of Anganwadi Centres under the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
There is also strong suspicion that the fund sanctioned under Integrated Child Protection Scheme may have been misused.
On the other hand, there have been reports of young children forcibly recruiting by UG groups.
In short, Manipur is a place where there are many cases of violating the rights of children.
