Ukhrul, May 20 2015 :
Against the backdrop of the 'Indo-Naga peace talks' dragging on for years, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has once again urged the Centre to expedite the peace process on the universal principles of ' delay defeats equity' at the earliest.
In a memorandum to the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, TNL said that since the signing of ceasefire agreement in 1997, both the Government of India and NSCN (IM) have held as many as 66 rounds of peace talks without much progress.
Asserting that further delay could be detrimental to both parties, the Tangkhul apex body appealed to the Centre to speed up the process in line with the principles of delay defeats equity.
The six-point memo was submitted by TNL president Weapon Zimik during a BJP public meeting held at Ukhrul Town Hall last Tuesday.
The other points included seeking Centre's intervention in Silent -Seijang land dispute, opening of the proposed Indo-Myanmar border trade centre at Tusom village, proper rehabilitation and resettlement of Mapithel Dam affected villages in Phungyar and invitation for Central ministers to visit Ukhrul district.
The memo also mentioned the non-distribution of due shares of the district by the State Government pertaining to development policy and programmes and demanded a special consideration from the Centre for development of the district headquarters.
