Imphal, December 19 2017: A low intensity, possibly remote controlled, IED, exploded near the residential gate of Imphal Post Office Postal Assistant, Md Kurtush of Kaikhu Muslim Makha Leikai, today, under Porompat police station .

According to police source, the incident occurred at around 2.55 pm today, when one non local rickshaw puller brought two cement bags in a rickshaw and meant to be delivered at the residence of Md Kurtush (40) s/o Md Sallimuddin .

The family members of Md Kurtush were taken by surprise when the two cement bags were delivered to the residence without any prior knowledge and as such they asked the rickshaw puller to take away the cement bags .

As the rickshaw puller was leaving the residence along with the cement bags on his rickshaw, an explosion occurred damaging the rear portion of the rickshaw .

According to the police, the bomb might have been secretly placed in between the two loaded cement bags and it might have been remotely triggered by suspected underground militants .

Porompat police have detained the non local rickshaw puller for questioning and an FIR has also been registered .

No one was injured in the blast .

It may be mentioned that on the last week of October this year, an IED was found at the residence of Md Kurtush.
