Village chief's wife killed in shootout

Imphal, June 19 2025:
The wife of Langchingmanbi village chief was killed in exchange of firing between security forces and suspected Kuki militants after the latter attacked farmers in Phubala, on Thursday injuring a farmer.
According to sources, Kuki militants opened fire on farmers working in fields on the western side of Phubala around 3.20 pm .
In response, a team of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployed near Heichanglong village fired several rounds toward the attackers, forcing them to retreat in the direction of Langchingmanbi village.
Central forces Stationed near Langchingmanbi were alerted and attempted to intercept the fleeing militants.
The militants reportedly opened fire at the forces, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire before they escaped.
Following the encounter, security personnel found the body of the village chief's wife, identified as Hoikholhing, who was believed to have been hit by a stray bullet during the crossfire and died on the spot.
Her body has been taken to Churachandpur district hospital for post-mortem examination.
