ATSUM presses for taking up tribal issues in Assembly

All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) has urged the State government to bring up issues of Schedule Tribes on the floor of the House during the upcoming Assembly Session which is due to commence from tomorrow.
Addressing media persons at the office of Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur at Namdailong here today, Majabung Gangmei, Spokesperson of ATSUM stated that the organization has time and again submitted a number of memorandums regarding various demands pertaining to the interest of the entire Tribal people of Manipur.
However, no action has been taken up by the government to fulfill the demands.
The demands included setting of Manipur State Commission for Schedule Tribes, establishment of B Ed Centres in the hill districts, to look into the crisis of the newly set up Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Regional Campus, to provide adequate staffs and proper infrastructures; reservation for SC and ST; protection of indigenous People's Right over Lands and review of the arbitrarily amended section 3(4) of Manipur Hill Village Authorities Act 1956, he added.
He also warned of various intense agitations if the demands are not brought up on the floor of the House for necessary discussion.
