'Awareness on use of antibiotics needed'

Health Minister L Jayantakumar Singh has noted that people need to beaware of the use of antibiotics.
Speaking as chief guest at the observance of �World Antibiotic Awareness Week" organised by the IDSP, Manipur, National Health Mission at Indian Medical Association hall at Lamphelpat today, the Minister said that medical professionals should be ready to give awareness to the people on the effects and benefits of antibiotics.
Citing an incident of mismedication, he asserted that misprescription of medicine may ruin a life.
He stated that medical professionals should not only give better treatment to people but they should also give awareness on antibiotics.
Attending the function as president, Director, Health Services Dr K Rajo Singh said that antibiotics should be taken in consultation with medical practioners.
He stated that we should not buy antibiotics or any form of medicines without proper consultation with a doctor.
He also suggested that we should not stop taking antibiotics without completing the prescribed course.
Dr L Ashananda Singh, Regional Director, MoHFW, Imphal and Prof AK Brozen Singh, HoD, Community Medicine, RIMS were present as guests of honour.
Officials and staff of Health and Family Welfare Department, nursing students and health workers also attended the function.
