Imphal, September 18 2011:
Forewarning a potential threat in near future to the territorial integrity and communal harmony of the state if the district re-organisation process is carried out on the basis of specific community, religion or language, 16 Civil Society Organisations on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur.
"We request you to consider initiating steps to introduce uniform Land Law and Land Reform Act applicable in the whole of Manipur" stated the memorandum while adding "under the Act any bonafide citizen of Manipur be legally permitted to settle in any part of Manipur according to their convenience".
It also suggested fixing of a tentative maximum limit in number of districts that may exist for the state.
Keeping in view the geographical area of the state in which division of the region into many districts may be an imprudent act.
