KYKL observes 29th Martyrs' Day
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, August 18 2022: The proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) reportedly observed its 29th Martyrs' Day (The spirit of revolutionary valour) on Thursday and paid tribute to all the revolutionaries of 'Kangleipak' and WESEA region who had sacrificed their lives while fighting for independence from 'Indian suppressive regime'.

According to a KYKL statement, the 29th Martyrs' Day was observed with flawless schedules at outfit's CHQ, 1st CHQ, 1st Bn, 2nd Bn, 3rd Bn, unit, transit camps and other locations inside and outside Kangleipak by honouring the heroes with floral tributes and condolence salutes.

The statement issued by KYKL publicity and research secretary A Yaiphaba said that the outfit observes Martyrs' Day every year on August 18 in honour of the supreme sacrifices made by martyrs who fought valiantly for restoring sovereignty of Kangleipak.

While recalling the incident which led to the observance of Martyrs' Day, the statement said that three valiant members of the outfit were held captive when a combined team of Indian forces (CRPF) and Manipur police commando surrounded a farmhouse at Kha Potsangbam from all sides on August 18, 1993.The Indian forces repeatedly used loudspeakers asking to surrender the three Pathou (cadres).

However, the three - Thounaojam Brojen alias Lakpa from Wangjing, Salam Ito alias Danger from Kha Potsangbam and Ningthoujam Basanta from Kha Potsangbam, who were fiercely loyal to their revolutionary principles, refused to surrender as they were firm on sacrificing for the motherland than to submit to the enemy.

They put up a good fight against the enemy who had far better weapons and ammunition than they had.

All of this transpired at a crucial moment when several forces working in different directions tried to destroy the organisation (KYKL).

At such a crucial time, disclosing party's secrets to the enemy was equivalent to destroying the organisation and the movement it led.

Rather than giving the enemy access to the party's information, the three cadres who could understand the reality of the period and loved the nation fought the enemy for hours till the very end, when they killed themselves, salvaging the Kanglei revolutionary movement and KYKL.

KYKL marks the day they gave their lives as Martyrs' Day', paying tribute to all the revolutionary cadres who gave their lives for the cause of advancing the revolutionary movement forward, in honour of the lofty revolutionary ideals they cherished and the supreme sacrifices they made.

According to the KYKL statement, observing Martyrs' Day and reminiscing sacrifices made by revolutionaries have become even more significant in light of the unfathomable degree to which the revolutionary ideal has been eroded among the Kanglei revolutionaries in recent years.

The revolutionaries of that time were the ones who were willing to give their lives for the cause and to defend the vanguard organisation.

However, what is now being witnessed are the people who are not only undaunted to give in to the enemy when the organisation and the movement it leads are in danger, but who are also unhesitating to leak the organisational secrets to the enemy in order to further their own selfish interests.

Over the past few years, numerous leaders had abandoned the revolutionary organisation rather than giving their best to ensure the movement's survival.

Now is the perfect time to rediscover the spirit of dedication and revolutionary ideals that the cadres (Pathous) embraced while keeping all of these realities in mind, the KYKL statement added.
