29 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised & facilitated the inauguration of an ICICI Bank branch and dedication of a 33/11 power sub-station to the populace of Joupi area in Khengjoi sub-division of Chandel district.
16 October 2017 will be a remarkable day in the history of Joupi - a far-flung location on the South Eastern borders of Manipur as the access to banking & power supply were literally brought at the doorsteps of the locals.

The branch was initially planned to be opened at Khengjoi but the sustained efforts of 29 Assam Rifles with the civil administration resulted in its opening at Joupi.
Amongst the host of measures like assistance during initial survey, the Battalion also accommodated the branch inside the garrison to meet the administrative requirements & assuage security concerns of its employees.
Given the backdrop of insurgency threats, the area is largely devoid of any civic infrastructure & basic amenities.
Till now, only a SBI bank branch existed at Chakpikarong located approximately 35 to 40 kms from Joupi & villagers were not able to avail benefit of the various Central Government Schemes.
Mr Letpao Haokip, Minister of Water Resources & YAS, Government of Manipur inaugurated the ICICI Bank Branch at Joupi.
The attendance included various dignitaries of the civil administration led by Shri Krishna Kumar, DC, Chandel, Shri K Angam Romanus, SP, Chandel and Shri Nayanjyoti Das, Regional Head, ICICI Bank amongst others.
The event was also coupled with dedication of a 33/11 Power sub-station at Joupi to facilitate provision of electricity to the villagers.
39 Assam Rifles has relentlessly pursued the execution of State & Central Government Welfare Schemes in the area over a protracted period for which the villagers have extended their gratitude.
