Imphal, June 16 2012:
Reacting against placing of Inpui and Rongmei alongside Kabui in serial number 8 of the list of recognized schedule tribes of Manipur under Constitution (Schedule Tribes) order (Amendment) Act, 2011, Kabui Development Voluntary Organisation has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister.
Addressing media persons in the regard at Manipur Press Club here today, G Disinrei Kabui, President of Kabui Development Voluntary Organisation said that the organization appreciates the Indian Government enforcing the Constitution (Schedule Tribes) Order (Amendment) with effect from January 9, 2012, thereby including Inpui, Rongmei, Liangmai, Zeme, Thangal and Mate in the list of recognized schedule tribes of Manipur.
This move serves the aspiration of the people belonging to these tribes.
However, placing Kabui tribe along with two newly recognized tribes, namely Inpui and Rongmei, in serial number 8 is objectionable as this would create confusion in the mind of the people over the identities of these tribes, Disinrei contented.
He also drew the attention of the Prime Minister for taking up necessary measures for placing Inpui and Rongmei separately from Kabui in serial number 35 and 36 respectively at the earliest possible.
