Imphal, January 16 2020:
Counting agents and sympathisers of North East India Development Party (NEIDP) have remarked that it will not be long before the High Court of Manipur announces a positive ruling for the case concerning inconsistency of votes between NEIDP and the Indian National Congress (INC) for Patsoi Assembly Constituency during the 11th Manipur State Assembly general election of 2017 .
It may be recalled that at that time, AK Mirabai contested the election with the Congress ticket while Sapam Kunjakeshore alias Keba contested as the NEIDP candidate for the Constituency.
When the election results came, it was announced that Sapam Kunjakeshore alias Keba had won.
But shockingly, after 4-5 minutes, it was again announced that he had lost the election and AK Mirabai had won.
Speaking to media persons at the residence of Sapam Kunjakeshore alias Keba at Tera Bazaar today, counting agents and NEIDP sympathisers Meinam Ibomcha and Ahongsangbam Oken expressed that justice will soon be delivered.
They narrated that Sapam Kunjakeshore filed a petition to the High Court of Manipur in April of 2017, suspecting foul play during the counting of votes.
After the case dragged on for a long time, the Supreme Court was approached.
After the Supreme Court issued a directive to the High Court of Manipur to expedite the case, the High Court issued on order concerning the case on January 14 framing certain points/issues which include whether the counting result prepared by the Returning Officer is incorrect or illegal, whether 12 invalid postal votes have been counted in favour of the respondent (AK Mirabai) and if 25 valid postal votes in favour of Kunjakeshore have been illegally rejected in the counting, whether the election agent of Kunjakeshore, under the instruction of the Asst RO, had wrongly dropped 17 postal ballot votes inside the postal ballot box of 18-Konthoujam AC etc.
The High Court has also listed the matter on January 24 so as to enable both parties to file their list of witnesses and documents, they said.
