Imphal, July 15 2019:
In response to the allegation published in some local dailies about ignoring Kyamgei Muslim as it is inhabited by minority community, United Development Committee (UDC), Keirao Kendra has contended that repairing works in the dilapidated sections of river banks have and are still being carried out in Keirao Kendra.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, secretary of UDC, Keirao AC, Hanjabam Muhindro said that there are many river banks within Keirao AC as the place is surrounded by Imphal river, Iril river and Kongba river.
Repairing works have and are still going on at many river banks, both in places inhabited by Muslims and Meeteis/Meiteis.
However, problems are being faced at some places due to the rain, he added.
The repair works are carried out with an investment of Rs 20-30 crore without receiving a rupee from the department concerned, he said while adding that plans are being taken up to repair other dilapidated sections at the earliest.
Making such allegation as if the local MLA has done nothing is very unfortunate, he added.
Talking about the problem faced by the farmers due to unavailability of water for irrigation in the constituency, he said that only 5 water pumps were supplied by the department to ease the suffering of the farmers.
The committee will seek more water pumps from the Government, he added.
