Tamenglong, July 15 2014:
Having no other option left, the irritated frontal civil organisations of Tamenglong on Tuesday decided to go ahead with the ban on National projects operated within Tamenglong district from today midnight till their demand is met.
The frontal civil organisations of Tamenglong have been demanding the government to redress the the problem of frequent total blackout in Tamenglong district.
In this regard, a statement signed jointly by David Kamei, Gen Secy.
ZYF (AMN), Thomas Kamei, Chairman ZB (M), Athanbou, President VACC Tamenglong, Riamei Joseph, Coordinator ZSUTD alleged that Chief Minister of Manipur O Ibobi Singh, who is looking after the power department has often assured that the power supply in Manipur will be improved with minimum 10- 12 hrs of power supply in a day.
With this aim in mind and for the smooth augmentation of power supply, he had inaugurated the 132 kv power sub- station at Rengpang few years back.
The people of Tamenglong were very happy about it, however, to their total dismay even today the people of Tamenglong are facing total blackout for the past three months and this awful event took place when the whole world enjoyed the FIFA World Cup event in Brazil.
"So, there is a strong resentment among the people of Tamenglong who felt that inept and callous attitude of the Manipur government is nothing but discrimination of the hill people in general and Tamenglong people in particular", the statement added.
"We want the Government of Manipur which is of the people by the people and for the people, to let the slogan, "CHINGTAM AMATANI" be translated in letter and spirit.
The obvious reason is that the Nagas people under UNC are demanding the Alternative Arrangement outside the Govt of Manipur because all the facilities and basic amenities are denied for so long", the joint statement said.
On July 2 last, the civil organisations of Tamenglong had a joint meeting at Zeliangrong Baudi office, Tamenglong QHs and had served an ultimatum to the Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur through Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong to redress the power problem within 7 days.
However, there was no response from the State Government till date.
In the meantime, Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur, Zeliangrong Youth Front, Village Authority Chairman Council Tamenglong, Zeliangrong Students' Union and frontal organisations have endorsed the 24-hr total bandh called by United Naga Council from midnight of 15 July 2014 and appealed to all people in Tamenglong to give full cooperation for the success of the bandh.
