Role of nurses in society stressed

Encouraging the nurses to give better service to society, RIMS Director Prof S Sekharjit has made a sincere appeal to the nursing fraternity of the state to render utmost support in creating a healthy society.
Prof Sekharjit was speaking as Chief Guest at the International Nurses' Week Celebration jointly organized by the nursing staff and Nursing College of RIMS at the Jubilee Hall of the medical institute here today.
He highlighted the service and sacrifice made by Florence Nightingale for the cause of humanity, and advised all nurses to render better service to mankind.
Sekharjit further said that there was once a gap in the status of doctors and nurses, but now it has been gradually reduced.
People equally acknowledge both the services of doctors and nurses.
The RIMS Hospital would strive to deliver best healthcare service with a dedicated team of trained doctors and nurses, he assured.
Delivering the presidential speech, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Prof Arunkumar stated that the nurses are the interface between the doctors and patients, and added that well-being of patients depends on the dedication and service of the nurses.
The International Nurses' Week observed under the theme "Closing the Gap: Millennium Development" was also attended by the Dean of School of Medical Sciences, Manipur University Prof TY Babu, HOD of RIMS Anatomy Department Prof N Damayenti and Principal of RIMS College of Nursing H Jamuna.
M Narmada, who secured first position in Surgical Nursing conducted by the Trained Nurses' Association of India, was also felicitated during the celebration.
