Imphal, January 15 2025:
While reminding the Congress party that multiple major incidents had occurred in between 2002 to 2015 when it was in power, BJP Manipur Pradesh ridiculed the former's consistent attempts to project self as a blemish-free political organisation.
Addressing media persons at its Thambal Shanglen office, BJP state vice president Ch Chidananda noted that people of the state are fed up with political rhetoric amid the prevailing unrest situation and the suffering of the people.
Accepting that it is natural for political parties to indulge in criticism on issues concerning the state, he said BJP Manipur Pradesh has being issuing clarifications as and when necessary.
He, nevertheless, decried the act of trying to draw political mileage from the present crisis, stating that the same shouldn't happen.
"If the situation demands, the BJP will provide clarifications and make its stance clear to the public as it has been doing from time to time," he stated.
According to Chidananda, chief minister N Biren Singh has consistently presented the government's decisions to the public.
He, however, noted that the Congress party continues its trend of appeasement politics, a strategy often employed by the party during election time to secure votes from the minorities.
"Minister Govindas is seen as a valuable asset to the BJP for his insight into the Congress party's appeasement politics," maintained the vice president, expressing disappointment over the Congress party's criticism of Govindas during a public function.
Chidananda pointed out that no one knows the Congress party better than Govindas, who began his political career as a resolute Congress man, while opining that critical remarks against him (Govindas) might be out of fear of spilling the beans.
"Such apprehension is the primary reason for the Congress party targeting Govindas, especially when he noted that the Congress appears to be eager to prolong the ongoing crisis at-least till the 2027 assembly elections," he said, while reiterating that Govindas' remarks are based on a deep understanding of the Congress party and are not the ramblings of an irrational person.
Reflecting on the 2017 state assembly elections, Chidananda referred to an allegation that the BJP sought help from a militant group under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
"If that were true, the BJP would have won all the Kuki-dominated constituencies in Churachandpur district," he maintained, while hastening to remind that Congress had secured six seats in the said district.
The same was true in the 2012 elections, where Congress also won six seats in the district," he argued.
Chidananda then suggested that Govindas might know the real reasons behind Congress' electoral success in the district, which prompted him to make the remarks against the party in public domain.
He further stated that the Outer Manipur MP's failure to condemn the recent killings in Jiribam proves that the Congress party is in no mood to resolve the crisis but keep the cauldron burning until the next elections in 2027 .
