Imphal, July 14 2014:
Demanding demarcation and eviction of encroachers from the road connecting Pallel Bazar to Aimol Tampak, and expansion of the IVR, the Aimol Tribe Union Manipur (ATUM) and Aimol Students' Union Mani-pur (ASUM) has called a state-wide general strike with effect from 6 am of July 21 and this would be followed by indefinite blockade on Imphal-Moreh highway.
It is reported that the proposed agitation would be supported by Organisation for Movement of Indigenous Peoples of Manipur (OMIPM) and the Students' League Manipur.
Pressing for the same demands, a protest demon- stration was staged today at Pallel Bazar under the aegis of ATUM and ASUM.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, ASUM general secretary S Chunglathang said that they apprised Chief Minister O Ibobi about their demands through a memorandum.
The proposed agitation would be launched as announced in case there is no positive response from the side of the State by July 20 .
ATUM has been pressing for the demands since 2004.Distance between Pallel Bazar and Aimol Tampak is just around 4 Kms and length which requires eviction at Pallel Bazar area is around 400/500 metres.
The demands are justified and the project would not cost any substantial amount to the State Government, he claimed.
The Government's indifference only exposed its negligence of Aimol community whose total population is just around 10,000 .
OMIPM convenor Sagolsem Umakanta and Students' League Manipur president Eengaleiba Wanglen who were also present at the press meet pledged support to the proposed agitation.
