The AGIPROP department of Manipur State Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) on Saturday held a victory ceremony of President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela at Irawat Bhavan here.
In the recently held presidential poll of Venezuela, out of 165 candidates 87 left party candidates were elected which led to the election of Hugo Chavez as President of the Latin American country for the straight record of four times, L Sotinkumar, general secretary, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) said at the function marking the Chavez's election.
He said the success of the left front in Venezuela, a country similar to Assam in respect of its size, has clearly shown the unison of the communists and its joint struggle for power.
Latin American countries are now ruled by left parties except Mexico, Argentina, Sotinkumar informed asserting the citizens of these countries have faith in socialism.
The whole effort to bring up working- class people on the highest strata of the society and endeavor to develop economy condition have made the people to concentrate and trust on communism, he added.
"It is right time we follow the example of the communist countries" .
MSC/CPI secretariate member N Mangi commented that the success of Chavez by securing 7.4 million votes in Venezuela which has 19 million population with 84.34 per cent of voters is really praiseworthy and maintained that such victory indicated recognition of his real role as a true communist by the people of Venezuela.
The function was also attended by Dr M Nara, secretary, MSC/CPI and secretariat members P Parijat and L Iboyaima.
