Floral tributes, rally mark Patriots' Day observance

Imphal, August 13 2022:
Observation Committee on 131st Patriots' Day, 2022 organised Patriots' Day by paying floral tributes and taking a 'Meira' rally as a mark of respect to the martyrs on Saturday.
The committee formed jointly by Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup (Tammi Chingmi) organised a meeting at Wahengbam Leikai Yumjao Lairembi community hall in connection with the observance.
After the meeting, floral tributes were paid at Shaheen Minar, BT Read, where Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were hanged by the British.
A Meira rally was also taken out till Hicham Yaichampat passing through Wahengbam Leikai, Keishampat and Keishamthong.
Candles were lit and floral tributes paid at the Hicham Yaichampat memorial, where the mortal remains of Bir Tikendrajit were laid to rest.
The meira rally continued from there and ended at Palace Gate traffic island, where the participants offered floral tribute to the statue of Thangal General.
A two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the martyrs.
As part of Patriots' Day observance, Khundrakpam Kendra Youth Organ isation (KHUKYO) in coordination with Sinam Youth Development Club (SYDC) conducted a tree plantation drive at Sinam village under Khundrakpam AC on Saturday.
Patriots' Day was also observed at Waikhom Mani Girls College, Thoubal College, YK College Wangjing, Tekcham Sports and Cultural Organ isation and Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) on Saturday.
The observance was marked by paying of floral tributes to the photo of Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit, hoisting of National Flag and taking out rally by staff holding the tricolour, panel discussion on the theme 'Nationalism and Identity' and distribution of awards to winners of Thoubal District Level Inter-College Activities Competition.
Similarly, Annual Literary Meet 2022 For High School Level cum 38th State Level Patriots' Day Celebration organised by Tekcham Sports and Cultural Organisation at TSCO ground, Tekcham Laibung began on Saturday and was marked by paying of floral tributes to photo of Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit.
MMWO also observed Patriots' Day at Lilong Keithel with MANIDCO chairman and Mayang Imphal MLA Kongkham Robindro attending as chief guest, Lilong MLA and WAKF Board Manipur chairman Abdul Nasir as president, Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan as special guest and MMWO advisor Mohd Has-simuddin Moinam as chief host, while Manipur State Minority Commission chairperson Md Anwar Hussain, AMUCO advisor Eto Tongbram, Federation of Civil Society Manipur president Th Manihar Singh, Bari Jame Masjid Lilong pesh (chief) Imam Alhaj Qaari Mohd Qayammuddin were present as guests of honour.
During the function, eminent historian professor N Joy-kumar Singh, Lilong Haoreibi College principal Raheijuddin Sheikh, DM College of Arts Imphal assistant professor Dr Sayed Ahamad, social activist Ningthouja Lancha and Writers' Union Manipur former secretary S M Sheikh spoke as resource persons.
Meanwhile, Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK) observed Patriots' Day at Khwairamband Ima Keithel on Saturday.
AMMIK also celebrated the day with Imphal Times, NE Brothers, YPAC, Elangbam Leikai Meira Paibi and Shree Shree Bijoy Govinda Naharol Seva Singlup Marup at the community hall of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, National awardee N Ibotombi, ex-SI Elangbam Bijoy, AMMIK ex-president S Tijendra and social worker M Jadu-mani attended the observance.
On the other hand, Patriotic Writers' Forum (PAWF) Manipur observed Patriots' Day at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday.
During the observance, which was attended by social worker Birla Salam, PAWF president N Khamba Luwang and patron members W Hemabati and K Dilip; an anthology of poems, titled 'Imagining' written by Damodar Laishram was released.
Later, Sahitya Akademi awardee Birendrajit Naorem chaired a poetry recitation programme in the second session of the programme.
United College, Chandel observed Patriots' Day by unfurling of National Flag by its principal Dr Bd Thumdal.
The gathering, consisting of teachers, students, and non-teaching staff and invitees also sang the National Anthem.
Moreover, the College conducted an essay writing competition on the title 'The Indian National Flag' in which Sh Joyful Monsang (BA 1st Semester) secured first position along with a quiz competition on the theme, 'Indian freedom Struggle', which was won by team 2 comprising Tungdar Danshawa Maring, Khichanhring Seltun, Sankhil Alisha, S Lovemehring.
The prizes to students who excelled in various sports and literary competitions were also distributed on the occasion.
