Kakching, March 13 2025: A one-day workshop on "Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government through Effective Implementation of Right to Information Act" was held on Thursday at the conference hall of the Kakching deputy commissioner's office.

The event, organised in collaboration with State Academy of Training (SAT) and Kakching district administration, was sponsored by Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India.

N Brajakanta, assistant professor Law Department, Dhanamanjuri University, and Narengbam Priyobrata, superintendent, State Academy of Training, were the resource persons at the workshop.

N Brajakanta spoke on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, explaining that basic objective of the legislation is to empower the citizens, promote transparency and accountability in the working of the government.

He also highlighted the Act's role in preventing corruption and building an efficient system for accessing information.

Brajakanta further elaborated that public authorities are required to provide the requested information within 30 days, while requests concerning life and liberty must be addressed within 48 hours.

Matters concerning national security, personal privacy or sensitive information are exempted from the purview of the RTI Act, he added.

The event was attended by additional district magistrate M Kapajit Singh and Kakching SDO Kherdananda Potsangbam.

Around 40 officials from various departments within the district attended the workshop.
