Imphal, June 12 2021:
The construction of Makru Bridge, which began in 2017 with chief minister N Biren laying the foundation stone, is now fully completed and is ready for inauguration.
The CM laid the foundation stones of both Makru and Barak bridges which are situated along National Highway 39 Imphal-Jiri road and constructed by Bharatiya Infra Project Limited under National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.
The construction of the two bridges was planned to be completed by 2019, however, due to frequent threats and extortion demands made to the engineers and workers of the construction company by armed groups and the delay in transportation of requisite materials, work progress on the two bridges was affected.
Fortunately, the construction of Makru Bridge has been completed and is now waiting for inauguration.
On the other hand, construction workers have been tirelessly working to complete the Barak Bridge.
As Makru Bridge has been completed, the manpower used will be utilised in construction of Barak Bridge so as to complete it at the earliest.
Chief Minister N Biren on his social media posted photos of the completed Makru Bridge and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari for approving the construction of the two bridges.
Makru Bridge is ready for inauguration but the date for inauguration is yet to be fixed.
However, sources hinted that it might be inaugurated in June or early July.
