Imphal, February 12 2018:
Replying to a call attention motion raised by Opposition MLA, Kh Joykisan in the House today, MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar said that the mobile toilets kept along the autorickshaw and Tata magic parking in front of Kangla, are kept for the conveniences of the people and the mobile toilet's wastes do not flow into Kanglapat.
Shyamkumar said that MAHUD Department installed nine mobile toilets along the side of Kanglapat as well as at the venue of Imphal Evening.
These mobile toilets are imported from Karnataka.
As soon as the mobile toilet is installed, it cultures and transforms the waste into a liquid, the Minister explained.
He informed that there is no possibility of the liquid overflowing as the bio mobile toilet has necessary facilities for easy removal of the liquid.
However, the toilet has a water tank on top of it and if several people use the toilet, there are instances when the water can overflow, he added.
Mentioning that Kangla is one of the most sacred places in the State and many hotels in Imphal even use the water of Kanglapat, Shyamkumar claimed that the bio mobile toilets do not produce any odour and to get rid of the people's apprehension, the bio mobile toilets have been shifted to the opposite side of Kangla.
This will also prevent people from urinating at other places like in the shade of tress growing along the stretch, the Minister added.
Raising the call attention motion, Opposition MLA Kh Joykisan said that the waste and the foul smell from the mobile toilets have defiled Kanglapat.
Mentioning that the situation regarding the mobile toilets have the potential to turn off visitors to Imphal Evenings as well, the Opposition MLA clarified that he is expressing uncertainty whether the bio mobile toilets which are installed for the benefits of the people, will adversely affect Kanglapat.
The Opposition MLA also questioned if the authorities concerned have neglected the mobile toilets after installing them or had procured only sub standard mobile toilets.
